From Free Open Source Software
The BSD license is Free Open Source Software, with perhaps the least requirements on use short of a full public domain release, consisting merely of a warranty disclaimer and notice retention.
- System V license costs too high
- 1981 – UCB and Bill Joy (later Java) develop 4.1BSD for DARPA
- Write own TCP/IP to free it from System V
- BSD is now free open source software
